Rumor: Could Sumo Digital be teasing Sonic VS Mario Kart?

Over on twitter, some of the developers from Sumo Digital seem to be talking about how they will follow up Sonic Racing Transformed. Take a look below:?

I honestly think it would be wonderful if Sonic were to appear in Mario Kart. But I think Mario Kart should go the way of Smash Brothers and let other characters be in it. Mario Kart is starting to get a bit stale in my opinion, even if Mario Kart 7 is a really great game. I seriously can’t wait for E3, some megatons are coming our way for sure.

The Wonderful Wonderful 101 Boxart

The boxart for the game was posted on Amazon, and look how awesome it looks! I am so excited to finally get some Wii U games, I’m glad the 3DS is around to hold the fort down.

Nintendo Direct May 17th – Press Release

Nintendo Seals Exclusive Partnership with SEGA on Upcoming Sonic the Hedgehog Games

Nintendo Direct Also Announces Wii U Games Shown at E3 2013 to be Playable at Select Best Buy Stores

REDMOND, Wash.–(BUSINESS WIRE)– The next title in SEGA’s Sonic the Hedgehog franchise will be exclusive to Nintendo’s Wii U home console and Nintendo 3DSportable system. Nintendo Global President Satoru Iwata announced the details of a new partnership with SEGA during a new Nintendo Direct video announcement today. Sonic Lost World is a new action platforming game, and more information about it will be announced before the E3 2013 video game trade show begins on June 11.

The Nintendo Direct also announced Mario & Sonic at the Sochi 2014 Olympic Winter Games for Wii U, and revealed that additional SEGA Game Gear games would be coming to the Virtual Console service for Nintendo 3DS. Outside of SEGA news, Nintendo announced that select Wii U games featured at E3 2013 will soon be playable at participating Best Buy stores, the launch date for New Super Luigi U, new Pikmin 3 game details and additional information about a variety of previously announced Wii U and Nintendo 3DS games.

“The onetime rivalry between Mario and Sonic has grown into a friendship that has never been closer,” said Nintendo of America President and COO Reggie Fils-Aime. “These announcements in conjunction with SEGA demonstrate the commitment we have to bringing great games to the Wii U platform, and set the stage for our upcoming announcements at E3.”

  • Mario & Sonic at the Sochi 2014 Olympic Winter Games: The game includes a variety of events from the Winter Games, including curling, skiing, figure skating pairs and snowboard slopestyle – which will make its Olympic debut in Sochi, Russia. Different events might use the Wii Remote Plus controller, Wii U GamePad controller or both. In addition to realistic events, the game also includes those set in the worlds of Sonic and Mario that let players perform moves not possible in real life. Launch details and timing will be announced at a later date.
  • Experience Games from Nintendo’s E3 Booth at Best Buy: Exclusively at participating Best Buy locations in the United States and Canada, consumers will be able to play some of the unreleased Wii U games featured at E3 while the event is occurring in Los Angeles. Details about locations and which games will be featured will be revealed in the coming weeks.
  • New Super Luigi U: The Year of Luigi-themed downloadable content for New Super Mario Bros. U offers players 82 updated courses. But it also includes a new playable character in multiplayer mode: Nabbit, who steals items from Toad Houses. Nabbit can’t power up, but also won’t take damage when he touches enemies. New Super Luigi U will be released as downloadable content for New Super Mario Bros. U in the Nintendo eShop on June 20 for $19.99. But in honor of the Year of Luigi, Nintendo is also offering a standalone packaged version of New Super Luigi U that doesn’t require New Super Mario Bros. U on Aug. 25 at a suggested retail price of $29.99.
  • The Wonderful 101: The mass-action adventure from Platinum Games launches Sept. 15. Additional details will be announced after E3.
  • Pikmin 3: New playable characters Alph, Brittany and Charlie recruit the Pikmin creatures to help them gather fruit so that they can return with the seeds to save their home, Planet Koppai. Players can divide activities among the different characters, and explore separate areas in the same map with different groups of Pikmin. Using the GamePad (known as the KopPad in the game), players can view the overall map and grasp what each character and Pikmin are up to. Players also can choose their preferred control option: GamePad in conjunction with the TV, Wii Remote Plus and Nunchuk combo or GamePad only in off-TV mode. Players can also use the Wii Remote Plus and Nunchuk with the GamePad as a second-screen monitor. Pikmin 3 launches Aug. 4.
  • GAME & WARIO: The game launches in stores and in the Nintendo eShop June 23 at a suggested retail price of $39.99, and includes a number of games from WarioWare, Inc., that use the GamePad in different ways. Newly revealed games include: Island, which lets two to five people launch little creatures called Fronks onto islands in the sea to score points; Patchwork, a puzzle game that tests players’ pattern-recognition skills; and Kung-Fu, which challenges players to help Young Cricket navigate a course safely using the forward-looking view on the TV and the top-down view on the GamePad. A new Iwata Asks feature offers more details about the game at http://iwataasks.nintendo.com.
  • Resident Evil Revelations: Capcom’s horror-survival game is launching in stores and in the Nintendo eShop on May 21. The game originally released for Nintendo 3DS, and the Wii U version offers players updated HD graphics, GamePad controls and new game content. Players can use the GamePad to view the map and change items using the touch screen without pausing their progress. Or they can play the full game on the GamePad in off-TV mode, or play with the Wii U Pro Controller. The game is Miiverse-compatible, and a demo version is currently available in the Nintendo eShop.

  • A Legendary Sale: The Legend of Zelda: Oracle of Ages and The Legend of Zelda: Oracle of Seasons arrive on the Virtual Console service for Nintendo 3DS on May 30. Because playing the games together unlocks so much additional content, Nintendo is offering them for just $4.99 each for the first three weeks after launch. After this promotion expires, the games will be available for $5.99 each.
  • Mario and Donkey Kong: Minis on the Move: The game, which launched May 9 exclusively in the Nintendo eShop, challenges players to place tiles on the bottom screen to guide the Minis to their goal on the top screen. The game includes more than 180 stages, but also dramatically extends the fun of the game by letting players create their own stages and share them with others. Players can opt to try a random user-created level or one created by their friends. They can also select from the most popular levels overall or search the top levels of the week.

Another Nintendo Direct focused on future Wii U content will air around the time of E3 2013.

The Wonderful 101 dated for North America & Europe

During the Nintendo Direct conference today, Nintendo announced the release dates for Platinum Game’s Wii U exclusive The Wonderful 101. The game will launch first in Europe on August 23rd, and in North America on September 15th.

I’m really looking forward to this game as it was one of the first revealed for Wii U. I am still angry at Nintendo for largely ignoring the Wii U when they have promised time after time that there would not be any software droughts. However, I hope the game is worth all the wait!

New Nintendo Direct on May 17th!!

We’re having a Nintendo Direct tomorrow to provide updates on upcoming summer Wii U and Nintendo 3DS games. Remember, you can watch live on Facebook here on.fb.me/XBtY8R. RSVP here: http://on.fb.me/10AA0YQ

We’ll discuss future Wii U titles for fall and onward in a Nintendo Direct before the start of E3 2013.

Now I’m pretty sure most people already know what a Nintendo Direct conference is, so I’ll skip the explanation.

If you are like me, you are probably already hyped just hearing about these. Nintendo is set to finally announce some Wii U & 3DS games for Spring & Summer! 3DS honestly has enough games announced and ready to go, it’s the Wii U that has been in a drought since launch. We already have a date for Pikmin 3, August 4th. Game & Wario is coming at the end of June, so I am guessing we are going to hear about The Wonderful 101 and some other games revealed in the past.

Can’t wait to see what they have in store for us!

Dragon Quest X, MMO, due out in 2012 for Wii & Wii U, crossplatform support!

14:55: Regarding the release time frame, Hori said it will be 2012.
14:54: Hori and Saito take the stage for a parting message.
14:52: Regarding the Wii U version, Iwata notes that players who begin playing on the Wii could
continue on the Wii U after they pick up that system.
14:49: Iwata congradulates the series on its 25th anniversary. It’s also Zelda’s 25th anniversary,
he reminds.
14:48: Next, they bring out Nintendo CEO Satoru Iwata to speak.
14:47: They’re going to have a beta test. Details will be announced shortly.
14:46: Next Hori announces a bit of possible 3DS compatibility. They’re thinking about something
where you can transfer your character to your 3DS for Spot Pass transfers with other players.
14:46: The staff is working to make DQX graphically superior on Wii U. The Wii and Wii U
versions will be played in the same world, though — they will be crossplatform.
14:45: They just announced Dragon Quest X for Wii U!
14:45: Next, a surprise!
14:44: The hosts ask for a development status update. The producer just gives a generic bit
about how they’re working hard on the game, and so forth.
14:44: The video of the play session ends.
14:42: When you’re not playing, you can let your character be used by other players in their
parties.
14:41: This time, he has a new weapon and upped his skill points. He and his new party of two
other NPCs face off agains the Golem. Other players who are in your area as you fight appear
translucent and show their support for you.
14:40: The music playing in the background as he plays is all new DQX music from Sugiyama.
14:40: He’s going to try the Golem battle that he lost in the previous clip. This time, he’s going to
use a new weapon.
14:39: You can also create your own home. Your friends can come visit.
14:39: You can create weapons that are used by other people. If your weapon is used by many,
your status/name will rise.
14:38: Now they’re introducing a section called “life in the Dragon Quest X world.” You can take
things like weapon and accessory maker jobs.
14:37: Players can help other players who’ve fallen.
14:35: You can see other players fighting in the world. This looks MMORPGish. I don’t think
they’ve said how many people can exist in the same world though.
14:34: He’s adventuring with an NPC that he selected himself. The characters have job and race
(the five races from the title — dwarves, elfs, etc…).
14:34: Like past DQ games, you go to the pub to assemble a party.
14:33: The game screen is being kept simple and clean, Fujisawa says.
14:33: You can create your own character.
14:33: They’re showing a play demo that was filmed earlier.
14:32: Director Jin Fujisawa takes the stage to show the game.
14:30: The next theme is things that may relieve those worried about online games. You’ll be
able to logout easily, for instance. You won’t have to play with others — the game can be cleared
100% on your own, using NPC characters. The commands will be familiar.
14:30 (Season means things like New Years, Halloween, etc… not seasons like Fall, Winter).
14:29: There will be various events with every season.
14:28: The game will also have added quests post release — like in Dragon Quest IX. It will be at
the same pace or even faster pace that DQIX’s. Some of the quests will span multiple volumes.
14:27: They’ll have a job change system. They won’t announce the name of the system today.
After release, there will be additional jobs.
14:27: Next a concept: “The joy of being able to play forever.”
14:27: He’s not sharing details on the story — just showing artwork and telling players to imagine
from there.
14:26: The game will have a huge story, Saito says. (In case you were worried about it being
online and all…)
14:25: Hori and Saito are looking at the five race artwork and praising Toriyama’s work.
14:24: The game is set in Astortia, which has five continents and five races — the five races
listed in the surname.
14:23: Saito explains the game’s concept, world view, etc…
14:22: Everything is being developed internally. Even the CG work from the intro was from Visual
Works (Square Enix’s movie staff).
14:22: This is the first time the game is being developed inside Square Enix.
14:21: Producer Yosuke Saito takes the stage.
14:21: Hori is calling out the game’s producer.
14:19: They’ve delivered messages.
14:19: Akira Toriyama and Sugiyama Koichi are, of course, handling the character designs and
music.
14:18: Regarding the online, your allies will be real players.
14:17: Hear that? It’s for Wii! So no more questions about platform changes!
14:16: The game is going to be an online RPG. It’s for Wii.
14:16: The surname leaked out in a trademark filing a while back.
14:15: Dragon Quest X Mezameshi Itsutsu no Shuzoku
14:14: Developed by Square Enix, the clip said…
14:13: He’s going to show a video to introduce the next DQ game.
14:10: He’s recalling how low tech things were back when the first DQ came out — the game fit
in the file size of a cell phone wallpaper screen.
14:10: He thanks the fans for the series being able to go on for so long.
14:09: “Hello, I am Hori.”
14:09: DQ series father Hori Yuuji takes the stage!
14:08: The new Dragon Quest portal site, Dragon Quest Paradise, is opening today. It’s at
dragonquest.jp.
14:08: Now he’s speaking about upcoming non game developments.
14:08: Yes we will! December 1 is the release date!
14:08: Next up, Itadaki Street Wii… I believe Fortune Street in the US? Will we get a release
date?
14:08: Yes we will! November 2 is the release date!
14:08: Next, Slime Mori Mori Dragon Quest 3 for 3DS. This was previously announced before, of
course. Will we get a release date?
14:08: He’s beginning by introducing upcoming near-term developments for the series, first DQ
Collection, which hits Wii on 9/15.
14:07: Miyake is the executive producer of the Dragon Quest series at Square Enix.
14:05: Yuu Miyake takes the stage (I think that’s his name).
14:04: The MCs said the reason why they’re MCing. The dude is gong to be hosting some
Square Enix net program that will start off with a DQ special. The girl will be appearing as a
guest on the first episode.
14:03: Today’s MCs are Hiroki Yasumoto and Ayana Tsubaki.
14:02: It’s just showing the numbered games, then ends with “next,” so this is definitely about
DQX!
14:01: The event begins with a montage clip running through the history of the series.
14:01: It’s starting!!!
13:59: The event is named “”The New Door that Now Opens” or something like that. The dude
who just spoke said that the event is about to start.
13:57: Sound finally up! GO GO!
13:56: The Nico Nico Video feed has 32,000 viewers — double the Ustream feed at present.
Neither has sound right now, so I assume the sound is cut off until the start of the event.
13:49: If you’re wondering what a Slime Tower Speaker looks like: clicky click. If I’m reading
correctly, the individual Slimes can be placed separately.
13:46: This is a Slime Niku-man (Meat Bun) as it may be displayed at Family Mart.
Image from Famitsu.com’s live blog. They’ve got lots more pics from the event space, so check
the site directly!
13:40: The Ustream broadcast has started. Watch here.
13:38: From Famitsu, the exhibit area of the press conference shows Slime meat buns that will
be released at convenience store Family Mart in late November, and a Slime Tower Speaker that
will be released in November by Hori.
13:27: According to a listing at Sankei Biz, today’s event is about Dragon Quest X.
13:25: The press conference is taking place on the 39th floor. The 39th floor of what, I don’t
know. But it’s on the 39th floor.
13:23: These pics from the event space are from Famitsu.com. They’re finally using Cover It
Live for their blog.
13:20: The event starts at 14:00, so check back in a bit!!!

Well, my mind was blown. It’s a good thing that the game will also be on the Wii U, so people like me who want to wait for a better graphical version aren’t stuck with the Wii being dead eventually. This was definitely a wonderful conference. I’ve never played an MMO but I think I will most likely give this a try. 🙂

Pokemon HD on WiiU: An article of ‘what if’?

What would you do if they had a Pokemon HD game on WiiU? Below is part of an article that talks about the possibility of an awesome Pokemon HD coming to WiiU. To read the full article, please follow the link at the bottom of this article. Would you buy a Pokemon HD on the WiiU? Comment below and let us know.

Pokémon is impossibly good. I mean to say that it’s impossible that a game first released in 1998 has kept me away from my Xbox 360/PS3, the pinnacles of gaming technology, for a solid week. By all conventions of technology, Pokémon should be nothing more than a fond memory. Like the briefcase cell-phone, the room-sized personal computer, and the VHS, Pokémon should have been defeated by newer technology a decade ago.

The story? Non-existent. A couple dozen lines of poorly-written dialog don’t constitute a story. The graphics? Sub-par. The gameplay? Like, three buttons and an off-switch. Pokémon is an anomaly. It shouldn’t exist in its current form. Yet it does, and does so very well. But what if Japanese developer Game Freak finally decides to stop proving wrong every convention of technology and instead starts utilizing the best hardware available to create a Pokémon game that the world has been waiting for?

Sega, Ubisoft, and others discuss Wii U support

Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot:

“We will announce one game that we want to launch day one that is a new type of game, which should be interesting. It is still very important, just because you can test a market and also see through the eyes of the first consumers. They are the people that actually have the word of mouth factor. The trendsetters. It doesn’t increase [costs] very much because the advantage is in being close to the other machines, you can do the game for all the formats at the same time.”

EA Games label president Frank Gibeau:

“It served us well on PlayStation 2 and PlayStation 3. Getting in early is partly about being a successful transition company and figuring out where the hardware is going to go. With the Wii U it’s important for us to get there on day one so we can get in and build as big an audience as possible. We’ve been doing this for 25 years and trying to pick platforms and more often than not we get it right. I hope we have this one right. That’s the gamble.”

Sega West president Mike Hayes:

“At some point we were the biggest, certainly top three third-party publisher on Wii, so for us it was a great platform… we’ve got absolutely no qualms about [Wii U]. I just think we’re all a bit premature in being a bit glass half full on 3DS. Everyone was clamouring ‘oh please bring it out in March, you must bring it out’ and then it’s like you get to June and it’s all ‘sales aren’t very good…’ Well, they haven’t got the software yet. That controller is absolutely brilliant and we have to think of innovative ways to use it. We’re doing high definition Sonics, we’re doing obviously Aliens: Colonial Marines, so you can bring them across, and that’s relatively low cost, which is good news. Then you spend your money on how do you use that controller effectively to make it unique and differentiate it.”

Karl Slatoff, chief operating officer at Take-Two:

“For us it’s really about understanding what the hardware capabilities are and understand how it’s going to fit into what our goals are from a franchise creation perspective. Really understanding what that platform can deliver and developing for that platform. So that’s our philosophy, not just with the new Nintendo console but across the board. Whether we’re looking at the 3DS or the PlayStation Vita or any of the new formats that are coming out. We can’t look at them all the same way. We’re not just going to port over.”
