Guild Wars 2 set for 2012 release; beta planned for later this year

Well, this is kind of disappointing that Guild Wars 2 will not come out this year, however we will still get a beta in the mean time and with recent mmo beta’s, you’ve been able to continue using your character that you used in beta, so hopefully this is the case and it is easy to get into the beta.

The Guild Wars 2 beta will begin in the second half of 2011, NCsoft has announced.

During a conference call, chief financial officer Jaeho Lee also heavily hinted at a 2012 release for the game.

“Starting from year 2012, we believe substantial growth will be driven by new blockbuster titles like [Blade & Soul] and Guild Wars 2,” announced Lee to investors.

“Also, Guild Wars 2 will go into beta testing stage in the second half of this year,” he added.

Guild Wars 2 developer ArenaNet has stuck staunchly to a ‘when it’s done’ mentality regarding the game’s release.

Guild Wars 2 was announced in 2007. Four years later, a team of 150 developers still beavers away. Guild Wars 1 may have been a breakout independent success, but Guild Wars 2 is a leviathan. And the hottest MMO prospect on the block.

“Guild Wars 2 is the most exciting MMO we’ve seen in the last three years,” wrote Oli Welsh, who saw Guild Wars 2 for Eurogamer earlier this year.

NCsoft: “Huge” 2011 reveals, “major gamescom presence”

I really hope this means we get a release date for Guild Wars 2, it has been my most wanted game this year.

NCsoft: “Huge” 2011 reveals, “major gamescom presence”

While NCsoft showed slips in both profit and revenue for the first quarter today, the company has told VG247 it plans to “steal headlines” at gamescom in August and has massive plans for 2011.

“Great games, great community support and real investment in ongoing game development is what lies behind the strength of these results,” NCsoft Europe sales boss Sarah Rogers told VG247 today.

“Providing players with rich and rewarding gaming experiences is what we’re all about at NCsoft. This is a very significant year for us with some huge announcements.

“We’ll have a major presence at gamescom this year where we plan on stealing a few headlines.”

NCsoft is currently working on Guild Wars 2 for an unspecified release, and has thus far kept any further major projects in the dark.
