Super Mario 3D will use Gyro, but no StreetPass

Nintendo is set to release their debut Super Mario game on 3DS this fiscal year ending March 2012. Shigeru Miyamoto opened up to the British newspaper The Telegraph with a few small details about the game set to debut at E3 on June 7th.

Miyamoto mentioned that the game won’t be using the StreetPass function in any form unless he can think of something useful for the feature. It is possible that they can update a game to have StreetPass functionality, but I doubt Nintendo would go through the trouble.

The game will use the gyroscope, but Miyamoto didn’t specify exactly what. I have a feeling it could be used in puzzles. He mentioned when asked why the 3DS didn’t have a second analog stick, that the gyroscope can replace the analog stick with movement of the system.

In Steel Diver, there is a gyroscope mode where you move the 3DS with your body to target enemy ships. I am really excited to find out just what Miyamoto is planning.

I can’t wait for E3, it’s going to be a blast with 3DS & Project Café!
